Coastal 2010 Pricing and Upgraded Order / Pricing Forms

Coastal has revised it’s web order input form to reflect 2010 pricing. Hopefully the order form is easier to use with more natural categories to choose your most needed items from. Existing dealers, please visit the Distributor’s Corner of our website to log in and view the revised order form. If you need your username and password, call a salesman at anytime, the office 8-5 CST, or send an email to one of us. For anyone interested in visiting this area as a potential dealer, please give us a call at 713-972-0505 or send an email to tom@coastalmosquito.com.

Our order and pricing form now includes all of the items we regularly sell and which are listed on our official price list. System choices include 30, 55, 125, and 225 tanks with your choice of master unit controller, manifold, and pump size. This hopefully will save a lot of headache when trying to remember the exact equipment you need. Some nice ideas put into the form also include the ability to choose your preferred shipping method and to note your choice of chemical preference to ship with a new system.

Thanks!

And many thanks to MGK for offering the mosquito misting community a venue specifically related to our fast growing niche industry.

For chemicals we recommend for misting, MGK provides the solutions

http://www.mgk.com/

MGK is the manufacturer of Riptide, Sector, and Vampyre;  3 of the most commonly used products in mosquito misting systems.  Active ingredient in all three is pyrethrin, commonly referred to as “py”, or for more difficult applications Permthrin, a man man synthetic py.  MGK writes,

“Pyrethrum is a botanical insecticide produced primarily in the flowers of Tanacetum cinerariaefolium, a species of the chrysanthemum plant family. Pyrethrum plants have historically been grown in commercial quantities in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Papua New Guinea. Over the past decade, Tasmania and Uganda began producing pyrethrum.
In East Africa the mature pyrethrum flowers are picked by hand, sun dried to remove moisture, and sent to a processing plant for extraction of the active ingredient-pyrethrins, a mixture of six closely related esters. In Tasmania the flowers have been bred to synchronously flower so they can be mechanically harvested. As in Africa, the flowers are sun dried and processed to produce the insecticide pyrethrum.
The insecticide properties of Pyrethrum were documented in the early 1800’s but it is suspected that the flowers were used to kill insects a considerable time earlier. The first commercially available products were powders made from ground flowers and later crude oil extractions became popular. Today, the refining of crude pyrethrum extract to remove the plant material, waxes, etc. is a highly complex process resulting in a very pure product from which most other plant properties have been removed.
Pyrethrum has been used effectively to control insects for decades and is non-persistent, decomposing rapidly in the environment. This rapid degradation of pyrethrum has resulted in little known cases of insect resistance making it an excellent choice for the control of insects in a wide variety of settings.”

The most common question we get from our dealers and end user customers is, ” Is this chemical safe to use?  Can I allow my pets and children in the yard if the system has been running?”

“From a toxicological viewpoint, pyrethrum has been extensively studied. It is low in acute toxicity to man and other vertebrate animals.  It recently went through a thorough review by the US EPA during the re-registration process.  Similarly pyrethrum has been listed on Annex I on the plant protection directive in the EU (#91/414) and is under review in the Biocides Directive (98/8). ”

Riptide is the industry standard for mosquito control and it is based on pyrethrin, described by MGK :

Riptide® Waterbased Pyrethrin ULV is an optimized formulation, specially designed to deliver fast knockdown and kill of mosquitoes, when used in residential misting systems. Riptide effectively controls mosquitoes and other flying insects, and is easy on ornamental and landscape plants.
  • Riptide is ideal for Mosquito Misting Systems
  • Riptide has an optimized ratio of pyrethrum and synergist (1:5)
  • Riptide’s polumeric water-based technology is easy on landscape plants
  • Riptide is designed for stability in misting systems
  • Riptide is economical and convenient

MGK also manufactures a wonderfull stronger strength product named Sector.  Sector is similar to Riptide in that it is water based, requires no special mixing or agitation to stay suspended in a misting tank, and has the same pleasant smell.  Sector is formulated to be more effective on spiders and flies, as well as mosquitos.  Compared to Riptide, Sector is the logical choice for Spider applications, horse barns, and difficult mosquito situations.  From MGK:

Sector® Misting Concentrate is a new water-based insecticide designed for misting systems. Sector provides knockdown, kill and residual control of the toughest flying insects problems, including mosquitoes, flies and other nuisance insects.
  • Sector’s water-based polymeric surfactant system is stable in solution and will not harm most common ornamental plants
  • Sector is ideal for high mosquito populations or hard to kill insects such as gnats, biting midges and no-see-ums
  • Sector’s unique formula combines Permethrin with the synergist PBO for a higher level of perfomance

The latest product that MGK has offered to the Misting community is VamPyre.  Our dealers and customers are absolutely amazed at the knockdown and long lasting effects of this product.  The owners of one of our valued dealers, Frank G. of Federal Pest in the DFW area, told a story of a horse barn that had a very difficult to control Fly problem.   Using Vampyre, for one spray cycle, the client was amazed by the flies on their backs writhing on the barn floor.  Frank did not expect such immediate and obvious effects.  He sings the praises of VamPyre every time we see him.  When customer satisfaction is the highest priority MGK’s VamPyre seems the best choice.

Vampyre® Misting Concentrate is a water-based microemulsion designed to provide unparalleled long-term stability in water dilutions.
  • Vampyre kills Mosquitoes including the Culex species that may carry and transmit the West Nile Virus
  • Vampyre kills and repels Stable Flies, Horse Flies, Face Flies, Deer Flies, House Flies, Mosquitoes and Gnats
  • Vampyre controls Deer Ticks and other lxodid species that may carry and transmit Lyme disease
  • VamPyre features the highest performing ratio of pyrethrum to synergist (1:10)
  • VamPyre’s superior water-based formulation technology is not harmful to landscape plants
  • VamPyre is the best product to use for hard-to-kill populations or

Leaking o-rings on Hago / Steinen standard nozzles

We received a phone call from a residential customer today.  She was very sweet and nice, but she complained that only half her system was working and some of the spray heads were spraying out at an angle in a stream.  While we rarely get calls from our end customers, she highlights an issue that from time to time we encounter with our dealers.  The solution is very simple.  The large style Hago / Steinen / Standard nozzle screw into the barrel of a tee fitting with a large oversize thread pattern.  Regardless of how tight a nozzle is screwed in, it will always leak if the o-ring is not properly seated.  Take out the o-ring and the nozzle could possibly leak from the threads even if you torque it, in some cases they will leak even until the nozzle breaks the barrell.  The correct procedure to install a spray nozzle into the barrell by lightly screwing it in by hand until the o-ring makes contact and you can no longer turn it by hand.  Then, using either wrenches or the preferred nozzle tool, turn the nozzle 1/4 turn.  That’s it.  If you wrench it until it feels completely tight, it will destroy the o-ring and it will likely not seat well.  As the systems run at 160 – 200 psi there is not much force required to contain the pressure.
